GETTING PREPARED FOR THE RIGHT JOB

Hello everyone, I want to use this medium to share an experience with the public on getting the right job despite the unavailability of jobs that has always be a problem to young graduates.

I am specifically writing this considering the economical and environment factors in Nigeria. I was opportune to be a crew member of those screening candidates who applied for a job opportunity in a company. It was an experience I am glad I had. As a young undergraduate, I also learnt a lot from this experience.

It is no longer strange that we’ve all complained that there are no jobs in Nigeria. But you should believe me when I say there are jobs in companies. Though, these jobs do not come often, but once publication is made by a company who wants to recruit new workers; how well are you prepared for such impromptu notification of jobs?

ECONOMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

In Nigeria, we all know that there are over 700 ethnic groups with different cultural backgrounds and ethics. Also, there are a lot of young graduates without job that would take any bait of job thrown to them. The competition for job is high and you must be very meticulous with every process you might likely undergo during the recruitment period.

Below are some important steps I believed are worth taking to get the right job for you.

STEP 1: ARE YOU QUALIFIED?

When you see a publication of job recruitment, take note of the requirements for the job. What is the discipline required or recruited for? Of course you might believe that there are some sort of divine favours on people. You might be working as an Auditor in a company while you are an Engineer in profession; you are lucky. But seeking a job, you should consider the discipline of profession wanted by the company.

You should know that the Employer would be having a lot of CVs piled up for that same job so; he will be looking for criteria to disqualified candidates.
When the profession wanted by the company is specified, be sure it is what you qualified on. Unless it was not specified the profession.

STEP 2: DO YOU HAVE A GOOD AND ORGANIZED CV?

You curriculum vitae should be simple to glance through. Organize your CV in a scale of the most important certificates needed by the company you’ve acquired. Do not bombard it with every qualification you’ve attain that are not relevant with the job you are applying for. For instance, you have a degree as a fashion designer but you are applying for an Engineering job of which you are also qualified for. It is advised that you concentrate on the field required than talking more on the field not required. During your oral interview, you can talk on your other qualifications if need be.

Employers are looking for ways to screen any error out. So keep your CV simple and brief. It is not about how beautiful your CV design is but the requirement your employer seek for.

STEP 3: PRAY

Prayer is important no matter what religion you are. Pray your employer who would be looking at your CV is not tired, angry or too happy or is having some immotional issues at the time of reviewing your CV. A very simple CV  (Recommended just an A4 page).

PRE-APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
AVOID RUSH IN PREPARING YOUR CV

Most candidate seeking job always fall the victim of drafting CV in hurry. Your CV should be drafted not when you get a job alert because the application deadline might be very close that you might want to quickly draft your CV.
Drafting  your CV in hurry might result to minor mistakes that might disqualify you even with your high standard.  You might forget to include your date of birth,  some vital qualifications and probably very minor criteria in some jobs such as your height,  weight etcetera.

UPDATE YOUR CV OFTEN

You likely might have acquired more professional certificates that may be relevant in the current job you are seeking.  Always update every of your informaion in your CV.

EDIT YOUR CV TO SUIT THE JOB

It  is not a matter of how many  degrees you've gotten.  Be wise and determine which of your qualification should be included in your CV.  You might give your employer the impression that may disqualify you.  Take for instance,  a company seeking  to employ Engineers with only first degree (Specifically stated) ; you might have your Second degrees or other degrees.  Your first degree should be more stated or pronounce in your CV.  Remember there are other applicant's CVs to be reviewed so your employer might  be in hurry in shortlisting for employment.  Therefore,  there might not be enough time to read your entire CV (make the job criteria more pronounce in your CV).
